Renault’s compact SUV Duster to debut in July

French carmaker Renault has advanced the launch of its compact SUV Duster to July and had already notched up 1,000 bookings for the vehicle, so far.

Rumor has it Renault is going to drive in the much-awaited Duster SUV on 4 July, 2012. Renault Duster SUV bookings have just kickstarted the bookings across India; one can engage this SUV by paying a sum of Rs.51,000. The French auto major officially proclaimed that it is going to roll out five passenger vehicles by the end of this year; out of these five Renault has already rolled out Fluence, Koleos and Pulse (petrol) and now it’s time for Renault Duster to break covers. Renault Duster is sold in the global market under Dacia badging. Duster is spawned on B0 platform and comes with an overall length of only 4.3 metres.  This five-seater from the stables of Renault will come with two engine options-104 bhp 1.6-litre petrol and a 105 bhp 1.5-litre diesel and will be available in three trims. Renault Duster 1.5L diesel engine will come mated with a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox, whereas the petrol trim will be adorned with a 5-speeder. The SUV will be available in two wheel drive and four wheel drive options and will be priced between Rs.8-10 lakh.

The 4.3-metre Duster is one of the most awaited cars and will be packed with all features of a full sized SUV, but will be available at the price of a basic sedan.

“Duster would be the most aggressive product from our stable, so far. We are close to finalising the details and introduce it at a very aggressive price. It will have multiple choices with the top-end model having dual airbags, leather upholstery, 16-inch alloy wheels and ABS with brake assist,” said Renualt India spokesperson Rajiv Mitra.

The Duster’s interiors have been tweaked for the Indian market’s needs and preferences. The air-conditioning and the suspension setup too has been carefully fine-tuned for the Indian driving conditions. The design of the interiors remains more or less similar to the one seen on the global model.

As we mentioned above, the Duster will be launched in first week of July with deliveries expected almost instantly. It will compete with the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio, the Tata Safari and the upcoming Ford EcoSport.
