SlingPlayer iPhone App To Sling Video Over 3G Soon: AT&T

In an announcement that surely has to have iPhone users in certain parts of the country who suffer with dropped calls shaking their heads, AT&T announced on Thursday that it will now allow the SlingPlayer iPhone app to stream live over its 3G network, eliminating a prior restriction.

The SlingPlayer iPhone app had been limited to operation on wi-fi because AT&T said such a bandwidth-intenstive app would overwhelm its network. In some parts of the country (such as New York City and San Francisco), its network has been overwhelmed without this app working on 3G, hence the note about iPhone users shaking their heads.

At any rate, it’s not the first time AT&T removed such a restriction. It made a similar move earlier in October when it said VOIP apps could use 3G. However, it wasn’t until recently that Apple removed its own block on such VOIP apps.

The question is: now that AT&T has removed this restriction, will the updated app speed through the troublesome App Store approval process?
